Voices Against Homophobia 12-31 May 2012 (IDAHO 2012)

Voices Against Homophobia

In honour of 17 May, International Day Against Homophobia (IDAHO), accept – LGBT Cyprus is organizing a series of activities titled “Voices Against Homophobia 2012”. Research conducted by ILGA (International Lesbian and Gay Association) in 2011 shows Cyprus among the countries that offer the least or not any legal support to LGBT people in regards to discriminations against them on the basis of sexual orientation. Furthermore, Cyprus is in the ‘red zone’ as the least-friendly country in the EU in regards to human rights offered.

The activities in the series “Voices against Homophobia 2012” include a number of events to be held between 12 and 31 May 2012 in Lefkosia, Lemessos and Pafos. At the ‘Peace Hall’, at the end of Ledra Street, Lefkosia, an exhibition will be hosted with covers of press media of Cyprus and other countries, with the theme of homophobia. Moreover, a number of activities will be held in Lefkosia, Lemessos and Pafos aiming to inform the general public on the issue of homophobia and discriminations made on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity.

It is important to note that all activities are free of charge (with the exception of personal consumption) and are organized with the help of the organizations and companies listed below, which we would like to thank:  European Parliament Office in Cyprus, Office of the Ombudsman, Nicosia Municipality, Cyprus University of Technology (Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts), Mayor of Lemessos Mr. Andreas Christou, Municipality of Paphos, Paphos 2017 Youth and Culture Workshop, European Commission Representation in Cyprus, Embassy of the United States in Nicosia, Veramand Ltd, Royal Embassy of Denmark in Cyprus, Cyprus Radiotelevision Authority, Cyprus Police, American Academy in Paphos, NGO Support Center, Cyprus Community Media Center, Cyprus Family Planning Association, Assosiation for the Prevention and Reduction of Violence in the Family, Youth Board of Cyprus, Cyprus Youth Council pool of trainers, Rooftop Theatre Group, Ithaki Venue, Svoura Cafebar, Novecento 22.
